Annunciation Church in York, Pa., Celebrates Centennial
|YORK, Pa. The Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation
celebrated its 100th anniversary the weekend of April 28-29, 2018,
together with their local hierarch Metropolitan Savas of Pittsburgh and

This centennial anniversary weekend was both significant and historic as
the community celebrated it with great joy and a hopeful heart as to
what the future will bring in the years and the generations to come.
The Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, in York, Pennsylvania,
began as most parishes of the Archdiocese, when a handful of Greek
immigrants came and settled in York early in the 20th Century. Out of a
need to lay to rest one of their own, this small group of immigrants
banded together and purchased a few plots of land to be used as burial
plots in what later became Mt. Rose Cemetery, where the vast majority of

On Saturday, April 28, an open-house event called A Day of Orthodoxy,

Vespers service for those who were in attendance.
The community welcomed with gratitude and enthusiasm His Eminence
Archbishop Demetrios, Geron of America, and His Eminence Metropolitan
Savas of Pittsburgh, to a formal anniversary dinner-dance, which also
included several local Orthodox Clergy, and local dignitaries.
Both Hierarchs gave a wonderful address to the attendees, congratulating our community on its longevity, and its bright future.
The weekend celebrations culminated on Sunday morning with a
Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, con-celebrated by Archbishop Demetrios and
Metropolitan Savas of Pittsburgh, assisted by Fr. Andrew Tsikitas,
Archdeacons Panteleimon Papadopoulos and Ryan Gzikowski. At the end of
the Divine Liturgy, Archbishop Demetrios elevated Fr. Andrew Tsikitas,
who has been serving the Annunciation community for almost 13 years, to

the divine services, the community offered a luncheon in the Hellenic
